Katowice

Katowice the upper Silesia metropolis with city rights since 1865. It has as many old monuments as modern buildings. There are many interesting and valuable exhibitions in our museums, such as: Polish paintings (Silesian Museum), Sacred Arts (Archdiocesan Museum), the insides of middle-class houses (Museum of History of Katowice).
In the past few years, with a lot effort and money, many old buildings have been restored, and know they shine as they did as they were new. Also a few fountains and squares were restored or built. From the top of the tower, were the new clock has been installed, it is located on the corner of Młyńska and Pocztowa street ,and you can hear a bugle-call played every noon.
The capital of the Silesian District is a powerful cultural center. There are many festivals and spectacles, some of them are local but many are international. The most important are: "Rawa Blues Festival", Festival of Direction Art "Interpretacje", International Military Band Festivals, G. Fitelberg's International Conductors Contest, International Graphic Art Show "Intergrafia". Also, during the whole year the best artist from all over the world gives their performances in: the Silesian Philharmonic, BWA, Upper-Silesian Culture Centre (GCK) and "Spodek" ("Flying Saucer")
During the Summer , there are many spectacles in T.Kościuszko Park and Summer Theatricals in the Garden of GCK.
In many restaurants you can buy food from all over the world but also some traditional polish dishes. Places of interest ....
